(BaseballStL) -- The first inning certainly wasn’t pretty.
Lance Lynn dug a 3-0 hole for the Cardinals after giving up back-to-back homers to the Reds Jay Bruce and Todd Fraizer.
Fortunately, the Cardinals offense came to the park to play Thursday and immediately responded to Lynn's struggle. Shortstop Jhonny Peralta hit his first homerun with the birds on the bat, scoring Matt Adams as well. The Cards then went on to score runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
As the offense continued to boom, Lynn settled in and allowed four hits and one walk without yielding another run. The bullpen took over in the bottom of the seventh and allowed three more runs until closer Trevor Rosenthal came in for the 4 out save as the Cards beat the Reds 7-6.
Lynn will pitch against the Reds again next Tuesday at Busch Stadium.
