(BaseballStL) — In a quick turnaround, the Cardinals and the Mets wrap up their series with a 12:45 game Wednesday.
Lance Lynn takes the mound on the back of a tremendous outing against the Nationals in which he went eight innings allowing no runs and two hits while fanning eight.
He is opposed by Bartolo Colon, who is chasing his sixth win in his 419th MLB start.
The Cardinals are chasing five wins in a row for the first time in 2014 and sit 3.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the division.
Jay No Joke
St. Louis’ offense has been driven by Jon Jay of late. Once pegged to be the fourth outfielder, Jay has played himself into an everyday role once again. Having hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, he has picked up four multi-hit games and scored 10 times.
In June, he’s hit .375, and scored 22 percent of all Cardinal runs when he’s in the lineup. He only has six at bats against Colon in his career.
Kevin Siegrist was scheduled to throw a bullpen session, but was once again sidelined with injury. When John Mozeliak spoke to reporters last week, he laid out a timetable that would have put the hard-throwing lefty in a bullpen session Tuesday and then likely out on a rehab assignment. But when the 24-year-old couldn’t get his shoulder loose, his schedule changed.
While the forearm issue that had plagued him of late is reportedly gone, a nerve issue in his shoulder affected his ability to get loose and throw.
He struggled with the same problem briefly in spring training. He is scheduled to try another session Friday.
