ST. LOUIS (FootballStL) -- The 49ers did something that no team has been able to do since Week 8: stop Steven Jackson from running wild.

Coming off a 139-yard performance against the Cardinals last week, Jackson was held to just 48 yards on 21 attempts by the tough 49ers rush defense.

It was a stark improvement for the 49ers who allowed Jackson to rush for 101 yards on 29 carries  in the team’s first meeting, a 24-24 tie.  It was the first time this season that Jackson had rushed for more than 100 yards in a game.

Jackson rushed for 81 yards on 13 carries during the next game, a 27-13 loss to the Jets.

It was almost as if Jackson had found the fountain of youth since the bye week.

He was still very effective against the 49ers in the 16-13 hard-nosed win on Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome.  Most of Jackson’s yards came via the passing game.  He caught five passes for 69 yards.
