(BaseballStL) -- Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday left Saturday's game in the top of the eighth inning with what the trainers called a left knee contusion.
"[He] had some bruising on his knee," manager Mike Matheny explained following the game, "Not exactly sure how it happened."
Holliday had been on a hitting tear during the game, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. The Cardinals still had the lead before Holliday left as they went on to lose to the Marlins 6-5.
Matheny said he didn't expect the bruising to cause Holliday to miss significant time.
Shane Robinson replaced the Cardinals left fielder and flied out in the only at-bat he had in the bottom half of the eighth inning.
