SAN FRANCISCO (BaseballStL) – The Cardinals had opportunities in each of the first three innings to score a run but were held scoreless by starter Matt Cain.
The Cardinals went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the first three innings. And if it couldn’t seem any worse, even Cain had an RBI hit with a runner in scoring position which gave the Giants a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
The Cardinals finished the game hitless in eleven at-bats with runners in scoring position. The Giants were 3-for-14.
It wasn’t the sole reason for the loss, but it was a major contributor.
