JUPITER, Fla. – Jaime Garcia continued a strong spring with his best Grapefruit League start Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium, tossing five scoreless innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 loss to the Miami Marlins.
Garcia allowed four hits and a walk but was in control pretty much the entire time. He had one strikeout.
“I’m where I want to be,” Garcia said. “Today was another step forward. Keep building up your pitch counts and keep fighting.
“I’m where I need to be on March 10. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
Garcia has a 1.80 ERA in three spring starts since being shut down during the playoffs last season with a shoulder injury.
“I was able to work down in the strike zone,” Garcia said. “It was a good game. I felt good.”
Garcia went to the bullpen after he was removed from the game and threw about ten additional pitches to reach his targeted allotment for the day.
