(BaseballStL) – Matt Kemp couldn't snag a fly ball hit away from Matt Adams, giving the Cardinals a base-runner in the ninth inning.

Peter Bourjos came in to pinch run. While clearly swiping second base, Bourjos' left leg could be seen coming off the base as he slid in hard while Rojas kept the tag applied which resulted in the runner being called out and snuffing out the Redbirds shot at a run.

Troubled ensued for Adam Wainwright in eighth as runners threatened on first and third with only one out.

Drew Butera bunted over Juan Uribe, who had singled to lead off the inning. Then Miguel Rojas, who had the first hit against Wainwright, hit a ball up the middle that was stopped by Jhonny Peralta to save Uribe from scoring.

But the Dodgers wouldn't be denied as pinch-hitter Justin Turner scored Uribe on a single to give the Dodgers the first lead of the night. With Dee Gordon up to bat, the ball scooted away from Yadier Molina and allowed the runners to move up a base.

Wainwight struck out Gordon, his sixth of the night, as he tried to work out of the jam with runners at second and third with two outs. Yasiel Puig was Wainwright's next strike out victim, allowing the right hander to keep the Dodgers only up by one.

The Cardinals had a chance in the seventh to score as Allen Craig doubled to right, giving the Redbirds their first runner to reach second.

A single by Jon Jay resulted in a play at the plate, that upon a challenge from the Cardinals, that resulted in a confirmed call of out to keep the Cards off the scoreboard.

Adam Wainwright continued to set down the Dodgers, fanning four before giving up his first hit in the sixth inning to Miguel Rojas to begin the inning.

Wainwright has thrown just 62 pitches with 41 of those coming as strikes as he's worked efficiently through the line-up. He gave up another single to Dee Gordon with just one out.

But the ace got out of the jam by inducing a double play from Yasiel Puid to keep the game scoreless.

Through the first inning, both the Dodgers and Cardinals had their lead off batters reach base.

Matt Carpenter singled off Josh Beckett while Dee Gordon walked from Adam Wainwright, but neither team was able to push the runners past first. Jhonny Peralta then singled to begin the second inning, but in similar fashion, the Redbirds were unable to move him over.

Peralta's hit in the second extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Wainwright has faced seven batters, retiring six straight after allowing the free pass to Gordon.
