(BaseballStL) -- Saturday rolled into Sunday in the offensive department as the Dodgers broke out into a six run lead within two innings.
Shelby Miller pitched almost perfectly through the first three innings before running into a lead off walk to Yasiel Puig. Then with the shift in place Adrian Gonzalez bunted for a base hit. Matt Kemp made Miller regret the walk by delivering a double to score Puig.
Gonzalez then scored on a sacrifice fly from Juan Uribe, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead after the fourth.
The Dodgers offense continued to sprout runs in the fifth as Puig scored once more on a single from Gonzalez. But the big blow came when Andre Ethier blasted a shot to right for three extra runs pushing the Dodger lead to 6-0.
The Redbirds haven't generated any offense, other than Matt Carpenter's three hits and a double from Molina. Only Mark Ellis reached base in the final two innings before the Cardinals were officially blanked by the Dodgers.
The Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds sit 6.5 games back from NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers.
