DeSmet romps over Hazelwood East
In the battle of the Spartans, DeSmet witnessed the Durran Neal Show. Neal rushed for three TD’s (18,7,71), passed for two scores and returned an electrifying interception 75 yards for the score as he led DeSmet (1-1) past Hazelwood East (0-2) 44-24. Neal engineered the newly installed Wildcat offense with reckless abandon as he ran inside and outside for close to 200 yards. Starting QB Leon Moody was lost for the season last week to DeSmet with an injuried knee. DeSmet jumped out to a 23-0 lead and coasted to the easy win. Trey Hill, HE QB, warmed up as the game unfolded and threw 3 TD’s strikes including scores of 80 and 60 yards.

The Vianney (1-1) led by 21-14 at halftime against a fired-up Northwest Lion (0-2) team. The Golden Griffins scored 23 unanswered points in the 2nd half and won going away 44-14 over Northwest. Markel Smith crossed the goal line three times with runs of 31, 78 and 33 runs as he provided the offensive spark for Vianney.

Maroons win fierce battle in Belleville
Belleville West (2-0) used some deception on the special teams, some stout defense and a potent ground game to knock off the Althoff Crusders (0-2) 20-6. The Maroons scored on the opening play of the game (66 yd run Sedrick Spillers) and the final play of the first half to hold a 13-0 halftime lead. Spillers iced the game with a 92 yards KO Return for a score immediately after the Crusader lone score of the game (1 yd run Vinson Arterbridge) in the final quarter. This emotional contest was played with a high level of intensity. Althoff, lost QB Jabari Taylor early in the 2nd quarter due to an ankle injury and used Frosh Eric Mertens for the remainder of the contest.
