JUPITER, Fla. -- Cardinals third baseman David Freese was out of the lineup for a second straight day Saturday due to renewed pain in his lower back.

Freese suffered the injury on March 4 while diving into the stands to attempt a catch a foul ball. He returned March 8 but shut it down recently when the pain didn't fully go away.

"Nothing serious at all," Freese said. "It's just banged up a little bit. We're just going to hang out for a couple days and let it get back to normal, but it's nothing serious.

"It's a movement issue. It's borderline subtle, but it's definitely there. It was just something that was always there so why not just let it calm down and get this thing right."

Freese likely won't play for the next few days. Manager Mike Matheny was not concerned that the injury was anything serious.
