(BaseballStL) -- One day after making his season debut, David Freese was out of the starting lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals in a 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Freese missed the first five games this season recovering from a lower back strain suffered when he fell into the stands making a catch during a spring training game.

After being activated from the disabled list on Monday, Freese went hitless in three at-bats with a strikeout before being replaced by Matt Carpenter in the eighth inning of a 13-4 home-opener loss to the Reds.

“I felt good. Tough loss, but I really felt good,” Freese said on Monday.

Freese was replaced by Carpenter, who went two-for-four with two runs scored on Tuesday.
