ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -- Cardinals third baseman David Freese was scratched prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins due to a left leg contusion.
Freese suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano on Saturday. He was actually hit twice by Zambrano during the Cards’ 3-2 victory.
There was no word if the injury will force him to miss the All-Star Game in which he was voted in by the Final Vote count on Thursday.
Matt Carpenter took the place of Freese in Sunday’s lineup.
