(FootballStL) -- For the second consecutive offseason, former St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo is looking for work. He was fired Thursday evening after one season as the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator.
The move comes shortly after Sean Payton was reinstated by the NFL after being suspended last season for his involvement in the so-called “bounty scandal.”
“I personally want to thank Steve and Ken for their contributions during what was an unprecedented 2012 season,” Payton told NewOrleansSaints.com. “Philosophically we are changing our defense to a 3-4 alignment and right now is the best time to accomplish this transition.”
Spagnuolo was fired last season by St. Louis after the team posted a 2-14 record in 2011. The Rams went 10-38 during the three seasons he was head coach.
The Saints also fired secondary coach Ken Flajole on Thursday. He was the defensive coordinator of the Rams under Spagnuolo.
