(FootballStL) -- The Rams were called for seven penalties for 53 yards against the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday but head coach Jeff Fisher says he believes only two of those calls were correct.
Fisher was especially upset about the offsides penalty against defensive end Chris Long on the first drive of the game. That gave the Falcons a more manageable third down attempt which they eventually converted. Atlanta would then go on to score.
“The first defensive offsides, that was a false start. It was not a defensive offsides. It’s like false start 101,” Fisher said. “You got a 3rd and 12 and we’re called for offsides so they now have a 3rd and 7. If it’s called correctly you now have a 3rd and 17. 3rd and 17’s are hard to convert. We most likely have a 3 and out and get the ball back instead of them going down to score.”
Penalties have been a huge issue for the Rams thus far in 2013. In addition to the seven penalties on Sunday in Atlanta, they were called for seven as well in Week 1 against Arizona. Fisher, however, says he’s not concerned about it going forward.
