JUPITER, Fla. - Slow down on that Joe Kelly to the rotation talk.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny added some intrigue to the fifth starter's competition Sunday, announcing that Shelby Miller would start Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins and that Kelly would follow him in relief.

Kelly has made three appearances this spring, all starts, and has a 2.25 ERA. Miller struggled while following him in relief during their last outing, appearing to strengthen the case for Kelly as the fifth starter.

But Miller, who has a 7.04 ERA in three appearances, will get his second start Tuesday, adding to the mystery surrounding the Cardinals plans for the final spot in the rotation.

Pitching coach Derek Lilliquist had said last week that they wanted the fifth starter to be decided by Tuesday so he could make the final three starts to build up his pitch count. The Cardinals maintain that no decision has been made, a claim that seems to have gained more credence by Miller earning another start.
