(BaseballStL) – Just call him Mr. October, David Freese comes through again in a big way in the biggest of post-season games.
With apologies to Reggie Jackson, David Freese may have earned the title as the current generation's Mr. October. His two run homer in the second inning Wednesday night in Game 7 against the Pirates was his 7th home run in the postseason since 2011. He hit a 99 mile an hour pitch from Gerrit Cole in the Pittsburgh bullpen beyond the left field fence.
Here are Freese's postseason homeruns:
1- 2011 Game 4 NLDS vs Philadelphia
2- 2011 Game 1 NLCS vs Milwaukee
3- 2011 Game 2 NLCS vs Milwaukee
4- 2011 Game 6 NLCS vs Milwaukee
5- 2011 Game 6 WS vs Texas
6- 2012 Game 1 NLCS vs San Francisco
7- 2013 Game 5 NLDS vs Pittsburgh
By comparison, Stan Musial hit exactly one postseason home run. That came in 1944 in the World Series against the St. Louis Browns.
