(BaseballStL) -- It's been four years since Allen Craig stood here in Jupiter, Florida as a kid with a dream to play in the big leagues. Now, he's entrenched as the clean up hitter and one of the league's best hitters.
"It's crazy. Time goes by extremely fast," Craig told me today. "I made the team in 2010 and was up and down that year. Ever since then it's been a crazy ride and the best time of my life on the field for sure."
Craig's ability to hit with runners in scoring position has been almost unmatched in baseball. His .400 plus batting average in those situations defies logic.
But does it make him one of the leaders on this team?
"I don't know," Craig admits. "We have such a young team that kind of creeps up to that status but I don't think I'm quite there yet. We have guys in the clubhouse that are locked in as veterans that I still look to as veterans. I'm still trying to prove myself. Hopefully one day I get to that point in my career."
And no matter what he does on the field, Craig says he will always continue to prove himself each and every year.
"I think that's one of the advantages that our team has had. One of the things this organization instills in you is to always prove yourself. Every guy in that clubhouse is always trying to improve. I'm just showing up to spring training trying to win a job and playing to the best of my ability," Craig said.
