The state of Missouri has a national champion in basketball. The Central Missouri Mules defeated West Liberty 84-77 to win the Division II championship on Saturday. Daylen Robinson scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half to help the Mules win their second national championship. They also won the title in 1984.

West Liberty (W. VA)  built a 35-26 lead 18 minutes into the game before the Mules came back to tie it 37. Neither team led by more than five points in the second half until the final 20 seconds in the game that had 14 ties and nine lead changes.

Central Missouri is coached by Kim Anderson, a former Missouri Tiger stand-out and long time assistant coach under Norm Stewart. "We had some adversity, we had some injuries, " said Anderson. "but our guys decided a couple of weeks ago they weren't going to lose. They said all along they wanted to win the national championship. I know everybody says that, I've said it for 12 years, and finally we did it."

The Mules have two former Vianney Griffins on their roster, freshman Brad Woodson and Sean O'Brien.
