ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -- There is a chance starter Chris Carpenter may throw off a mound this week, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

In March, he was forced to stop throwing due to weakness in his right shoulder which kept him from being able to raise his arm above his head.

Carpenter told reporters he is currently at the point he would be at the beginning of spring training.

There is no timetable on Carpenter’s return, but his status will likely influence the Cardinals’ decision to trade for a potential starter before the July 31 trade deadline.
