(BaseballStL) -- The Cardinals recalled shortstop Pete Kozma and lefty reliever Kevin Siegrist from Triple-A Memphis while optioning Tyler Lyons, Nick Greenwood and Marco Gonzales to Double-A Springfield Sunday.

Kozma gives Mike Matheny another middle infielder off the bench, an area the manager knows he's lacking.

"We've been working Jhonny hard," Matheny said, "[Kozma is] a shortstop who's played in the World Series. We love what he does defensively. Right now we only have one infielder on our bench and it puts us in a tight spot on how we use [Daniel Descalso]."

Siegrist has allowed only one run and three hits in six appearances for Memphis. He also has 11 strike outs in 6.2 innings pitched.

"He's looking good against righties and lefties," Matheny added, "It just sounded like he was very fluid and efficient and in the strike zone. His ball was jumping a little more."

Matheny did say he thought Lyons, Greenwood and Gonzales would rejoin the club Tuesday at the end of Springfield's season.
