(BaseballStL) – Justin Masterson will make his fifth start as a Cardinal Sunday and by end of the afternoon the Redbirds could be sitting at the top of the NL Central.
With a win over the Phillies and a Milwaukee Brewers loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cards would take sole possession of first place with a little over a month left to play in the regular season. The Brewers have lost 7 of their last 12 games.
This will be Masterson’s third start and fifth appearance against the Phillies in his career.
Masterson continues to rebound after his horrendous start in Baltimore at the beginning of August, but the Cardinals have won his following two starts.
At the bat, Masterson has been a machine as he’s only one hit away from doubling his career total in hits with six total. Already this season with the Redbirds, Masterson has recorded his first run scored and RBI of his MLB career.
