(BaseballStL) -- Baseball can be a funny game sometimes.  Things that would seem to be so obvious sometimes just aren't.  And some things that would appear to never have a chance of happening simply do.

A player the level of Carlos Beltran should, at some point, be in a World Series game.  He just should.  Winning is about talent.  And there are few others in the sport who have more of that than him.

But here we are in 2013, a mere 36 years into his life, and Carlos Beltran is doing this for the first time ever.  It's shocking really.  The man's played in 45 postseason games.

Never been to a World Series.

The man's played in 2,046 regular season games.

Never been to a World Series.

"When we won the games against the Dodgers and advanced to the World Series, I was very happy to just turn the page of being so short but never quite being able to get there.  I was so happy.  My family was happy.  I had done something that I had never done before," Carlos Beltran said.

Cardinals players have turned this postseason into sort of a 'win for Beltran' month.  It's about getting this man to the mountain top he so incredibly deserves.  And, best about it all, he's the most likeable person there is.

"He's a better friend and a better teammate than a player," David Freese said.  "It's unbelievable who he is.  I don't want him to leave.  I don't know if I'm going to be a Cardinal never year but I hope he is."
