ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday released Kyle McClellan, a Florissant native who had been the longest tenured relief pitcher on the team.
McClellan, who attended Hazelwood West High School, pitched for the Cardinals from 2008 to 2011.
He won 12 games for the World Series team during the regular season in 2011, but arm fatigue kept him from pitching most of the postseason.
He missed most of this past season due to shoulder and elbow issues.
During his tenure as a Cardinal, McClellan went 19-23 with a 3.69 ERA. He appeared in 261 games, 244 of them as a reliever.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals signed veteran catcher to a Rob Johnson to a minor league contract with the Memphis Redbirds and extended him a non-roster invite to Spring Training in February.
