(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals may not make a move for a shortstop during the season after all.

General manager John Mozeliak downplayed the idea of the team looking to acquire a shortstop after news broke that Rafael Furcal is healing properly from a ligament strain in his elbow.

What should the Cards do at shortstop Share your thoughts.

"I probably have to blame myself for talking a lot about shortstop, but right now it's not something we're chasing given that the news on Furcal is positive," Mozeliak told STLCardinals.com. "Unless we get something that changes courses on that, I don't think we're going to be pounding that as much as people have anticipated."

Furcal has yet to resume throwing this offseason.

There were previous rumors that the Cardinals were looking to trade for Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.  The team will look for more depth than a starter at this moment.
