COLUMBIA, MO (KMOV.com) – Laurence Bowers and Phil Pressey are under consideration for a prestigious college basketball award.
Both Pressey and Bowers were among the 25 players selected for the John Wooden Mideseason Top 25 list.. The list was released by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Thursday night.
The winner of the Wooden Award is considered the most outstanding player during the college basketball season. The Wooden Award National Advisory board selects 25 students athletes who, based on their performance during the early months of the season, are considered favorites to make the final ballot.
The final ballot consists of 20 players who are making significant contributions to their team on the court and are maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
Missouri was only one of three schools to have multiple players named to the midseason list. Duke (Mason Plumlee and Seth Curry) and Kansas (Ben McLemore and Jeff Withey) are the other universities who garnered the same honor.
The 2012-2013 season has been the best of Pressey's college career. Pressey is averaging career highs in points per game (13.6), assists (7.6), and rebounds (3.5).
Bowers, only one year removed from surgery on the ACL in his left knee, is averaging a career high 16.8 PPG and 6.9 rebounds. Bowers has scored double figures in 13 of the 14 games in 2012-2013.
