(HockeyStL) -- The St. Louis Blues have placed defenseman Kris Russell on the injured reserve because of a groin injury he suffered against the Detroit Red Wings on December 27.

Russell was traded to the Blues in return for Nikita Nikitin on November 11.

He has five points and plus-six rating in 21 games played with the Blues this season.

Russell will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
