(HockeyStL) – It’s official: the Columbus Blue Jackets have hired former St. Louis Blues executive John Davidson.

Davidson was heavily praised for the work he did in St. Louis to acquire players such as Jaroslav Halak, Kevin Shattenkirk, and Andy McDonald after joining the Blues in 2006.  He agreed to a buyout earlier this month.

He will try to turnaround a Blue Jackets team that posted the worst record in the NHL last season (29-46-7) and traded away its best player, Rick Nash.

During his time in St. Louis, Davidson helped rebuild a Blues team that ranked last in 2005-06 into a Stanley Cup contender.
