(BaseballStL) – Major League Baseball executives announced Thursday they were forming a committee in search of commissioner Bud Selig’s replacement and Cardinals principal owner Bill DeWitt, Jr. will serve as the committee’s chair.
The committee will be comprised of six other executives and will be tasked with gathering input from all 30 teams. Selig is set to retire as commissioner on January 24, 2015.
“Our committee will conduct a thorough, discreet process,” DeWitt said, “All of the parties involved share the goal of acting in our game’s best interests, and thus we will refrain from commenting out of respect for the confidentiality of the process.”
Selig has served as MLB commissioner since September 9, 1992.
