(BaseballStL) – If you have every played baseball or softball then you know when you hit the ball, the coach tells you to run hard to first base. Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett apparently didn’t get the message.
In the top of the third inning in an important game between the Cardinals and Dodgers Thursday night with the score tied at one run each … Beckett hit a sharp ground ball in the hole between first and second that quickly skipped to Carlos Beltran in right field.
Beckett is not considered a speed demon on the base paths so in a scene that looked more like a play in a little league game, right fielder Carlos Beltran charged the ball – grabbed it and threw Beckett out at first base.
It was a heads up play by not only Beltran but also for first baseman Allen Craig who had the sense to get back to the bag and cover on the play.
Beckett will be hearing about this play for a while.
