(BaseballStL) – It’s a battle between southpaws on Saturday night in Cincinnati as Jaime Garcia will toe the rubber for the second time this season against fellow lefty Tony Cingrani.
Garcia went 7.0 innings Sunday in his first start in a little more than a year, giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs. He fanned 5 batters.
In his history against the Reds, Garcia has given up a .256 average. Todd Frazier and Ryan Ludwick have struggled against the left-hander, with just a .091 and .154 average respectively.
The Redbirds faced the Reds’ Cingrani early in the season and won a 1-0 decision against Michael Wacha, allowing just two hits and struck out 9. But the Cards have faced the lefty in just 58 at-bats for just a .190 average and 20 strikeouts.
The Cardinals are sitting both Matt Adams and Kolten Wong, who have zero hits, collectively, in 10 at-bats.
Siegrist to the DL
The Cardinals announced Saturday they placed left-handed reliever Kevin Siegrist on the 15-day disabled list due to a left forearm strain. Siegrist pitched 1.1 innings against the Reds Friday night. It is unclear when the strained happened.
The Redbirds recalled lefty Sam Freeman from Triple-A Memphis. This is Freeman’s second trip to St. Louis this season.
