(FootballStL) -- Tavon Austin has dreamed of playing in the NFL since he first starting playing football as a kid. On Sunday that dream will come true for the Rams talented rookie receiver.
“I’m definitely feeling good,” said Austin. “My dream is finally coming true. I just want to get that first win under my belt. I’m going to give 100 percent and come out on top.”
Austin figures to face a tough test with the Arizona secondary on Sunday. The Cardinals ranked fifth best in the league last year in passing yards allowed.
Austin was able to shred defenses with his speed as a college player at West Virginia. It won’t be as easy in the NFL to run past cornerbacks and safeties, but he’s confident his 4.34 speed in the 40 will translate onto NFL playing fields.
“I’ve been playing against our defense. We got a pretty fast defense,” he said. “I’m fast too. I know the intensity level is definitely going to go up, I just got to be ready to handle anything that’s thrown at me.”
Chances are, a lot of footballs will thrown at him on Sundays this fall. Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher says his number one draft pick, the eighth player chosen overall, is ready for the challenge.
“He’s ready to go. He’s prepared to do whatever we ask him to do for us this week,” Fisher said. “He’s not had any issues whatsoever with our offense since his arrival.”
“We’ve been meshing since day one,” said Austin. “We believe in Sam and Sam believes in us. I just need to believe in the coaches, be in the right spot at the right time, and everything should go well.”
