ST. LOUIS (FootballStL) -- It seems that barring any setback to his foot injury, the Rams expect Danny Amendola to return to the field as soon as this week.
Amendola has missed each of the last two games after suffering a foot injury against the Jets last month. He only saw limited action in the game following the injury against the Cardinals.
Jeff Fisher doesn’t expect his star wide receiver to practice in the early portion of this week, but is more optimistic about his chances this week.
“He was much better than he was last week, but we just felt it would make sense that we waited another week. I think he’s got a much better chance this week,” Fisher said.
The return of Amendola will likely ease the pressure of rookie wide receiver Chris Givens, who filled in during his absence. In the two games without Amendola, Givens caught 14 passes for 117 yards.
Fisher also acknowledged that Amendola needs to be closer to 100 percent before playing again.
“It’s uncomfortable. It’s a foot injury that still needs to heal. Danny needs to be close to 100 percent to be effective, to be able to protect himself, particularly,” Fisher added.
Amendola has caught 51 passes for 576 yards and two touchdowns in eight games this season. He missed three games earlier this season with a shoulder injury.
The Rams are 2-3 in games without Amendola this year.
