(BaseballStL) -- What in the world will lefty Tim Cooney do for an encore?

Against the Mets on March 2, the Wake Forest alum make a big splash in his debut this spring by going two perfect innings, striking out four.

He needed just 14 pitches to get through the outing.

The most impressive part of Cooney's outing was the sharpness of his breaking ball.  It was very deceptive and kept hitters off balance.

Currently slated to start for AAA-Memphis, the lefty easily could pass up Tyler Lyons for the honor of being the first pitcher up should the Cardinals need someone to fill in for a starter.

Of course, he needs to continue to make an impression in spring training and continue that in Memphis, but Cooney is off to a good start.
