ST. LOUIS -- A scaled-back development plan for a site outside Busch Stadium in St. Louis is one step closer to reality.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a key committee of the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Wednesday to send the measure to the full board for final approval.

The $100 million plan for Ballpark Village is far less ambitious than previous proposals, but the Cardinals have said it is far more likely to succeed. It includes plans for a team hall of fame, a themed restaurant and an Anheuser-Busch-sponsored beer garden.

The rest of the 10-acre site will be refitted with streets and sewers, but will be left vacant for future development.

The Cardinals hope to start construction this fall. Some of the project will be paid for with tax-funded bonds.
