(BaseballStL) -- When Allen Craig crumpled behind first base last night in Cincinnati, and then hobbled off the field, the Cardinals were fearing the worst.
Craig rolled his foot and was in considerable pain. Initial x-rays were inconclusive, so Craig was sent to St. Louis today for more testing.
After undergoing a repeat x-ray and an MRI, performed by Dr. John Nadaud, a foot and ankle specialist from Mercy Hospital, Craig has been diagnosed with a mid-left foot sprain. No fracture was present.
Craig will wear a walking boot for protection and be re-evaluated early net week by Dr. Nadaud and the Cardinals medical staff. Right now there is no timetable for his return to the field, but the Cardinals are optimistic he’ll be able to return to action before the end of the regular season.
