ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Following the death of an unarmed teenager and a night of rioting and looting, the St. Louis County NAACP held a public meeting Monday night.
The family of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by a Ferguson Police officer, was invited to attend the meeting on Natural Bridge Road following a night of unrest in the city.
“It is our hope that this discussion will provide accurate and reliable information to be shared with the community. Our expectation is to educate the public on the NAACP’s strategy toward justice for the Brown family and the community. On hand will be a panel of community leaders, attorneys, and other leaders of influence to provide insight on how to heal our community,” said Esther Haywood, President of the St. Louis County NAACP.
Haywood said the organization is hurt and disappointed by the riot response Sunday night to Brown’s death.
The meeting was held at Murchison Tabernacle CME Church.
