(KMOV.com) –News 4 has learned a man was beaten while walking his dog near a demonstration in Ferguson Wednesday night.
Patricia Bynes told News 4 she was standing along West Florissant during a demonstration when a group of men jumped a man who was walking his dog. The beating occurred only one block away from the QuikTrip that was set on fire Sunday night. Several residents said they feel trapped and are concerned nobody is safe.
“They chased him, started punching his in his face, I yelled ‘stop! Stop!’ Another woman and man also yelled ‘stop!” Bynes said.
Bynes said other men proceeded to jump in, punching the attackers in an effort to pull them off the victim.
Some who live nearby are concerned violence outside is starting to affect them even if their families are inside their homes.
“Tear gas is going inside there people’s chimneys, ac units, kids are getting scared, babies waking up in the middle of the night, they’re just taking it too far,” said Ferguson resident Candice Childress.
The man who was beaten was taken to a hospital, treated, and released. Police said he received an escort back to his home.
