What is your take on the unrest in North St. Louis County?
ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has canceled all Missouri State Fair appearances and is headed to Ferguson.
Gov. Nixon posted the announcement on Twitter late Wednesday night. During his visit he plans to ask for calm and to urge law enforcement to respect the rights of residents and the press.
“Situation in Ferguson does not represent who we are. Must keep the peace, while safeguarding rights of citizens and the press,” Gov. Nixon posted on Twitter.
Ferguson has been the site of nightly protests and unrest since 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed during a confrontation with an officer on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, Gov. Nixon flew in unannounced to attend a forum in Florissant with various officials regarding the situation in Ferguson.
Gov. Nixon has not disclosed when he expects to arrive in the area Thursday.
