Firefighters evacuated about two dozens homes in the St. Louis suburb of University City as a precaution after heavy rains hit the area.
Residents of one neighborhood there are waiting for a FEMA property buyout after flooding from the River Des Peres (duh-PAIR) killed two University City residents last year.
About 20 miles to the northwest in St. Charles County, firefighters reported at least 20 calls for water rescues on Monday. Assistant Chief Scott Freitag (FRY'-tag) said significant rainfall led to waterways flooding across low-lying roads. He said in some instances, people even tried to drive around emergency vehicles blocking flooded roads. No serious injuries were reported.
