A sheriff's deputy in St. Charles County remains on administrative leave as the investigation continues in the case of an Illinoisan who died after being shocked with the officer's stun gun.
Authorities say 22-year-old James Wilson of Alton, Ill., died Tuesday.
He was unarmed when the deputy responded to a disturbance at a West Alton convenience store, where Wilson allegedly had battered his sister.
Sheriff Thomas Neer says Wilson moved toward the deputy in an aggressive manner and the deputy used his stun gun.
Neer says a preliminary investigation indicates the deputy followed departmental policies.
Alton police records show Wilson had a criminal background, including cases involving domestic battery, criminal property damage and possession of marijuana and crack cocaine.
