A 50-year-old Madison man is dead after his vehicle was hit by a train early Sunday in Monroe County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a vehicle driven by David E. Johnston was at a railroad crossing when the vehicle became stuck on the tracks.
The train hit the vehicle, which came to rest on the tracks a half mile west of the crossing.
Johnston was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in the car sustained serious injuries, the patrol said.
