Fresh, unfussy, rustic Italian food can be found at Maraza, a new restaurant in Clayton. The Carpaccio de Pesci, for example, pairs paper-thin tuna with lightly-dressed zucchini.

The salads are equally compelling. The spinach salad with gorgonzola and pistachios is tossed with a pancetta sherry vinaigrette.

The pizzas are unlike other pizzas around and start with a toasted crust.

Pasta lovers will want to dig into the Spaghetti al Gambretti, where plump shrimp are tossed with a rough pesto and sun-dried tomatoes.

And if you’re looking for something more substantial, try the cioppino, where shrimp, scallops, mussels, and fish mingle with a tomato and herb broth.

A Maraza signature that you’ll have to try is the Vitello alla Siciliana. This is Italian home cooking that is soul-satisfying.
