Balaban's was a legendary St. Louis restaurant and when it shut down a few years back, culinary hearts were broken.

The restaurant operating in the old Balaban's space, Herbie's Vintage '72, references many of the old favorites as well as offering new signature dishes of its own.

Balaban's was known for seasonal pastas, and Herbie's has brought that back. The current offering showcases rabbit.

Another long time favorite is the restaurant's beef wellington. The classic dish is rich with pate and given a sweet edge with golden raisins.

Newer selections include tuna with a risotto-edamame cake and tempura fried bok choy and a duck confit crepe with pepper jack cheese and truffled honey.

And for dessert, you have to get the chocolate fritters!

Herbie's Vintage '72 respects Balaban's culinary legacy while giving diners its own twist on French-American fare.
