(KMOV) – Crews continue to work on a water main break that has left several residents without water in south St. Louis.
Officials say approximately 20 inches of the water main broke at Pernod and Sublette off Macklind shortly before 7 p.m.
Water remained shut off in the area as crews worked to fix the break. Officials said they hoped to have it repaired by Tuesday afternoon.
Crews said pumped were draining water from the hole dug to access the broken pipe. Once the water is gone from the hole crews were able to access the break sit and begin repairs.
As News 4 arrived on scene residents were making arrangements to stay at a hotel overnight. Others were rushing to the closest grocery store to purchase bottled water.
It is still unclear as to what caused the break.
