(KMOV.com) -- A bill to expand federal background checks for gun purchases is headed to the Senate floor Tuesday.
After much debate, the committee postponed a vote on the proposal to ban assault weapons until Thursday.
Thursday is the three month anniversary of the Newtown, Ct. school massacre that left 26 dead.
Newtown is also the home of the National Shooting Sports Federation.
Monday, the gun club joined the NRA rally at the Connecticut capitol and bussed in hundreds to protest gun restrictions.
Tuesday, the club donated 2500 gun safety locks.
