(KMOV) – A man is in custody after him and a driver led police on a high-speed chase after a robbery in Beverly Hills Monday night.

Brandon Smith, 29, was charged Tuesday with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

Police said officers were patrolling the area of Lucas and Hunt near Natural Bridge around 5 p.m. when they saw Smith approach a man in a car wash parking lot. He pointed a gun at him and took the victim’s cell phone and Oxycontin painkillers.

Authorities said Smith then hopped in a getaway vehicle and officers gave chase.

The chase made its way into north St. Louis, where it ended in the 3900 block of St. Louis Ave. after the getaway driver hit a dumpster. According to police, the driver at one point exceeded 90 mph.

Smith and the getaway driver were both taken into custody. According to police, the driver will not be charged.
