JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) – A woman and her 4-year-old daughter are recovering from minor injuries after a minivan crashed through a guard rail, overturned several times and ended up in a creek.

According to authorities, a woman lost control of her vehicle on eastbound Route M around 7:30 a.m. near Barnhart.

The 41-year-old woman then hit a guardrail, slid down an embankment and ended up in a creek.

A Missouri State Highway patrol officer was first on the scene and located the woman holding a child inside the submerged vehicle.

The woman unbuckled her daughter from her car seat but couldn’t get out because water was at door level. Trooper Trevor Elliston waded into the water and carried the girl to safety, then went back and got the woman.

Both the mother and child were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency crews responded to the scene a short time later and pulled the vehicle from the water.
