(KMOV.com) – Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office have called off the search for those involved in possibly crashing a vehicle into the Meramec River Monday, then disappearing

According to police, a woman driving a white four-door Chevrolet Malibu contacted a park ranger in Meramec State Park around 5:30 p.m.

The woman told the park ranger she just watched a vehicle drive in to the Meramec River. The park ranger activated a search to locate the vehicle, but was unable to find it.

When the ranger returned to speak with the female witness, she was no longer there.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that the woman contact them immediately so deputies and EMS can obtain further information as to where the vehicle went in to the water.

"We desperately need to speak with her to confirm whether to continue the search or whether there was a misunderstanding so we can confirm what we can," said Sergeant Travis Blakenship with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies had dive teams standing by and were concentrating the search around the boat ramp.
The search continued Tuesday morning, with two boats - one with sonar - looking in the water for two hours. Officials did not find anything and called the search off.

Anyone familiar with who the witness may be is asked to call 636-583-2560 immediately.
