VALLEY PARK, Mo. (KMOV.com) – An Ameren substation caught fire Wednesday morning due to a small explosion.

The outage happened just before 9 a.m. in Valley Park at the Marshal station. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Ameren officials said the explosion impacted a 138 volt line, one of their more powerful lines. When the substation lost power, it was quickly redirected. Residents and businesses in St. Louis lost power briefly.
