BRIDGETON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The Missouri Highway Patrol closed Interstate 270 in both directions Friday after power lines fell across the roadway.

According to reports, drivers called authorities around 1:20 p.m. to report power lines laying on the road surface on, just north of the St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton. Officials said a truck hit a pole, causing cable lines to fall across the highway.

Officers with the Missouri Highway Patrol responded to assess the situation and quickly decided it was too dangerous for drivers to cross the lines. They were forced to shut down the interstate between St. Charles Rock Road and Highway 370 for a little less than an hour.

Utility crews arrived on the scene and were able to lift the lines off the road so vehicles could get through.

I-270 in both directions is now open and traffic is moving normally.
